Bulldawg Banquet 2014

Wed January 15 2014 @ 07:59 PM

Dear Players and Families,

The St. Denis Bulldawg Football Banquet will be held on Sunday, February 9th, 2014, in the Grimes Center at St. Denis after the 8:00 am Mass.  Players please arrive at Mass by 7:50 am wearing your football jersey.  The Players and Coaches will sit together. A pancake breakfast and a presentation of awards and the cherished sweatshirts by the Coaches will be enjoyed at the Banquet. This is a Pot-Luck Brunch. A future email will give you details on how you can volunteer for Setup Saturday night Feb 8th, Servers, Cooks, Runners, Cleanup on the day of the Banquet.

The cost is $8 for each Player and $5 for each additional person who wishes to attend or $18 per family maximum cost. All of this collection is used to purchase trophies and Banquet items. If you are unable to attend, we ask that you kindly consider making an $8 contribution to help fund these items.  As always, much work needs to be done to make this happen.  If you can help in any way, please contact one of the Football Banquet Committee members.  Traditionally these are 5-7th grade parents.  We would like the 8th grade parents to not volunteer since they have volunteered in the past and it might be their last Banquet.  Please let us know if you will attend (player plus family) by emailing me.  We need this in advance to make sure we have the right quantity of food and drinks. The last few years we have had over 300 people attend. 4th Grade Bulldawg Flag Football Members are also invited.

Please see the form below. You can email me your number of attendees.  Your payment (cash or check) should be dropped off at the Grimes Center before Mass.  This is not a St Denis CYO Sponsored event so make checks payable to Gary Pergolini or Clay Warnick.

Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

Giving Thanks!

Fri November 29 2013 @ 03:40 PM

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle...victorious."  Vince Lombardi

How true on this Thanksgiving Weekend after this past season.  I am so proud of this team and how hard they worked since August 15th. We started with 40 players and no one gave up. All the players and their parents should be congratulated after such a fine season.  I think we reached our goals, winning the Southern Division, making the Parade of Champions and being the second or third best team among 44 teams in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is quite an accomplishment.  But much more important than that, these boys are becoming fine young men.  I believe they became a team during St Francis week, believed in eachother and learned how hard it is to start something that is not easy, quite frankly not sure what they were getting themselves into on August 15th, set goals, work hard and reach them!

I want to thank all the parents for their time and dedication this past season.  I hope that everyone of the young men enjoy their Winter and Spring sports, continue to academically excel and see the 5th graders become the Leaders next year and the current 6th Grade Leaders all move up to Varsity next season.  It is a special time for Maria and I in that Anthony and Michael have just completed 8 years of Bulldawg Football starting with Flag.  Like everything else it goes by way to fast, but it is so worth it.  I cannot thank all the Varsity and JV coaches enough for what they have taught my sons over this time.  The Varsity staff of Coaches are second to none and Coach Gary Pergolini and his staff will continue their development and their career in Bulldawg Football.

We will hand in uniforms on SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE ST DENIS GYM downstairs to avoid disrupting basketball practice.  This will start at 6:30pm and will not take long. As soon as your son hands in his equipment and let's us know his nominations for the end of the season awards he is done and can leave. Please return Playbooks,  helmets without stickers and mouthpieces,  shoulder pads, knee pads, thigh pads, practice and game pants.  Hold on to your game Jersey, chin straps and girdles.  Watch for emails regarding the Football Banquet in February.

Happy Thanksgiving,

The Bulldawg JV Football Coaches

Thanksgiving Week

Tue November 26 2013 @ 06:38 AM

We will practice tonight likely inside site and time to be determined.  Tomorrow night also will depend upon the weather.  Thanks to all for the support over the weekend in the extreme elements.  The following is a message from Jen Lord;

First of all congrats to all the players and coaches! What a great season for JV and Varsity this year!!!.  Below is a Potluck for the Thanksgiving game on Thursday.  It is a Bulldawg Tradition to have some drinks and snacks for the players, parents, and families etc.  We also offer the same to the St Margaret's players as well.  If there is something that you would like to bring that is not on the list, feel free.  If you sign up to bring a table please have it there by 9:45 am.  I know that last year there were coolers with ice on this list but since it is supposed to be cold, I wasn't sure that would be necessary.  Please feel free to add them or anything else you ;think that we might need that I forgot.  Let me know if you have  any questions.  Jen Lord. Go Dawgs!

Vince Lombardi Quote

Mon November 18 2013 @ 04:45 PM

Instead of ending on a Vince Lombardi quote I figured I would start with one of my favorites..."The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand."I think that captures how I feel about yesterday's game. I am very proud of the young men and how they played yesterday.  Speaking for the Coaches, the first 24 hours after a loss is somewhat painful and difficult to gather your thoughts. However we saw the sadness in the boys' faces and you could see they clearly know what it means to be a Bulldawg. For what it's worth we spoke to the Corpus Christi coaches and they were quite impressed with our players and the program.

We are in the final 9 days of the season with Saturday and Thanksgiving.  Just to give you perspective, we are playing for 3rd place among 41 JV programs in the Archdiocese.  We will be playing St Max Kolbe of West Chester on Sunday at 2:45pm at Cardinal O'Hara with ABVM of NE Philly playing Corpus Christi of Lansdale to follow. The Varsity will be playing for the Division A Championship rematch on Saturday at 2:45pm against archrival St Francis at Malvern Prep.  Bulldawg Football, St Francis, and St Max are the only 3 programs of 44 where BOTH the JV and Varsity are represented in the Parade of Champions this weekend. Here is the schedule for the next week and a half so that you can make your plans:

  • Tuesday Nov 19th off, Study, Study, and more studying! Boys may go to basketball practice
  • Wednesday Nov 20th normal practice at Merwood 6-7:30pm
  • Thursday Nov 21st normal practice at Merwood 6-7:30pm
  • Friday 6-7:00pm 7-8:30pm Pizza Party, Design sweatshirts, watch Dick  Butkus movies presented by Bob Newman.
  • Saturday 9-10am at Merwood, Boys can go to basketball practice in afternoon.
  • Sunday report to Cardinal O'Hara at 1:30pm for 2:45pm kickoff.

All Players will be introduced at games this weekend. I will take orders for the coveted Parade of Champion T shirts later this week. These are exciting times and as always thank you for the privilege of coaching your sons!  Go Dawgs!

Please have the Young Men Read this ASAP from Coach Kineavy!!!!

Fri November 15 2013 @ 04:28 PM

Guys,

It is finally here; the reason why you play through heat in August and the cold of this week is finally here.  I know when I was your age, four months of a sport was a very long time.  You might be looking ahead to Thanksgiving, two weeks off at Christmas, or starting a new sport in the Winter, and that is normal.

But we set a goal in  the beginning of the season and EIGHT DAYS IS WHAT IS BETWEEN US AND REACHING THAT GOAL.  Watching practice on Tuesday reminded me of something personal to me.  Four years ago, I started my own season.  Like you guys have each week, I had opponents acrossthe line who tried to prevent me from achieving my goal.  Your goal is to win back to back championships.  My goal was to graduate college with a Villanova degree.  As you can tell from when I come to practice, my opponent is different that the other Villanova students face.  I might have had to wake up a little bit earlier to get ready for the day.  I might have had to take a little more time on my homework than my fellow classmates, but I have five weeks until graduation!

Ever since August, you have been challengedby your coaches to find and push your limits.  You might have wondered why do I need to finish this sprint?  Why do I have  to one more extra rep of Oklahoma?  But look at where you are now, two steps from the Parade of Champions!  I feel very lucky that Coach Warnick gave me the opportunity to get to know you guys. Youguys have accepted me for who I am quicker than most people I come across, and I thank you for that.  As I have less than a month of school left, I can see my long journey ending and I am looking forward to what is beyond Villanova, much like you are looking forward to basketball or school vacation.  BUT MY JOB IS NOT DONE!  YOU'RE SO CLOSE, AND I COULDN'T BE MORE PROUD.  YOUR ARE TWO STEPS AWAY FROM LIFTING THE TROPHY.

HOW WILL YOU DEFINE YOUR  NEXT EIGHT DAYS?

COACH FRANK KINEAVY
