St. Joseph/St. Robert 2009 CYO Cross Country Season

Sun August 09 2009 @ 10:33 PM

Greetings Atletes and Parents:

Welcome to the 2009 SJR Cross Country Season. We are a little over a month away from the first XC meet of the season on Sunday September 13. I am planning to start training sessions for the season a little earlier than we have done in the past years, with the hope that the athletes can get in a little more base milage in before the first meet. We will begin workouts on Monday August 17 at 6:OO PM at Horsham Park. Workouts will generally last about 1 hour. Parents are encouraged to run with the athletes or take advantage of the trails for walking or other fitness activities. The Archdiocese CYO Coaches meeting is scheduled for Sunday August 23. I should have the complete meet schedule after that meeting.

Our goal is to build individual fitness, self esteem and to foster a sense of teamwork and spirt among all the athletes on the team.

It is not too late to join the team, we are still looking or more athletes in order to have enough runners to compete in each of the three age graded catagories. We really need more girls and 7th and 8th grade boys to join, so if you have any friends who are thinking about it encourage them to come out and try practicing with us to see if they like it.

In the meantime you should begin running on your own to begin develping your fitness and start logging you base mileage before the start of the season. Also, now is a good time to begin getting new running shoes if you need them. I would suggest that you go to a store that specializes in running shoes and will make sure that you get the proper shoes and the right fit. Two stores that I would recommend are Bucks County Running Company in Doylestown and Born To Run in Springhouse.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday August 17 at Deep Meadow Park on Horsham Road (across from the police station). We will meet at the picnic pavillion. If you have any questions feel free to call me.
