Thanks for a Great Season

Thu May 21 2009 @ 01:32 PM

Parents and Players,

This is (probably!) my last message for the season. I wanted to pass on some information from last night's game to show you how great a game that was. We had 24 at bats last night. We struck out only 4 times, meaning our batters put the ball in play 20 times. We had three hits, so that means that Nativity made 17 fielding plays. Usually when we hit the ball that much, good things happen. Sometimes, however, (and as much as it pains me!) you have to give the other team credit. Going into the game, we felt Nativity had to play a nearly flawless game to beat us. They did that, and they earned a hard-fought win.

I want to thank you all for the opportunity to coach the girls this spring. There is a special atmosphere around CYO activities that's not easily replicated in other leagues. Maybe the level of play isn't always as high as it is in travel leagues or on select teams. But I think the camaraderie, the rivalries, the sportsmanship, and the pride in representing your CYO team creates a unique environment and makes the girls' participation that much more enjoyable.

I'm sure I speak for Coach Hoban when I say that if the girls had half as much fun as we did, then the season was a tremendous success. The team that played in last night's game barely resembled the one that showed up for that first practice. We want to thank you all for your commitment to getting the girls to as many practices and games as you did. It was a crazier-than-usual year, but the level of participation was the primary reason this team improved so dramatically.

People often ask me why I continue to coach even though my children are well past CYO age. I probably have more fun coaching than the girls do playing (although with this group, it may be pretty close!). I also think it has a lot to do with the kids I have the privilege to coach. I can't imagine coaching a better group of girls than your daughters.

Thanks for everything this year! Enjoy your summer!

Game for Tonight is Confirmed

Wed May 20 2009 @ 07:56 AM

Parents and Players,

Tonight's game is confirmed for 5:30 PM at Munro Field #2 vs. Nativity. The park is on Newtown Road, off of Bristol Road just east of Jacksonville Rd. Please have the girls at the field by 4:45 PM so we can get loose and ready to play.

The softball fields are in the back of the Park. If you pass the main entrance, there is a little parking lot in the back, closer to the softball fields. Follow the path and there are three softball fields back there. Directions to the park are available from the Schedule tab on Wagdogs by clicking on the game link.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

Monday's Game is Canceled

Fri May 15 2009 @ 08:01 AM

Parents and Players,

The game on Monday against St. Catherine has been canceled and will likely not be played. Despite that, we are in the playoffs and will likely play either Ambler Catholic or Nativity in the first round. I would guess we'll play on Wednesday of next week, but I do not have confirmation of the time, place, or opponent. Nativity and Ambler play on Monday to determine the regular season champion.

I know that there are several conflicts for Monday and Tuesday of next week, but it's likely we'll have a practice one of those two nights. I'll send an e-mail out later this weekend.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

St. Catherine Game Reschedule for Monday (5/18)

Tue May 12 2009 @ 11:18 AM

Parents and Players,

The St. Catherine's game has been rescheduled for Monday, May 18, 6:00 PM at Tennent. Please let me know of any conflicts as soon as you can.

If we win the next two games, we'll be in the playoffs and will likely have to get started on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. I'll need to know of any dates/times that you/your daughter cannot make so we can schedule around any issues.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

Past, Present, and Future

Mon May 11 2009 @ 02:55 PM

Parents and Players,

Just a reminder that our rescheduled games take place this week; tonight at 6:00 PM vs. St. Albert, Wednesday at 6:00 PM vs. OLHC, and Friday (still working on confirming this game) 6:00 PM vs. St. Catherine. All games are at our home field at Tennent. Let me know ASAP of any conflicts.

Thanks to all of the girls that played in this weekend's Lansdale Catholic softball tournament, and to our guest players Claire Repisky, Katie Marron, and Megan Roynan. I hope they had as much fun as the coaching staff did.

Going into the tournament, we were a little unsure of how we would perform given all of the challenges that we've faced with the weather, player conflicts, and lack of practice time. However, the team that showed up for the tournament was the team that we have been waiting to see. Every girl that played hit the ball well all day, and we scored a lot of runs on some pretty good pitchers. We also played good defense to go with solid pitching, and ran the bases well and aggressively. Let's carry that into this last week and the playoffs.

The championship game, although a letdown, was to be expected. We played all day with 9 or 10 girls, and Ambler Catholic probably had a half dozen or so girls in the championship game that hadn't played all day. I sure would have like to play them after a night's rest! If we play this week like we did on Saturday, I have a feeling that we'll see them again real soon!

Thanks again for all you do to support the team!

Tomorrow's Games

Fri May 08 2009 @ 12:17 PM

Well, the weather doesn't look any better for tomorrow than it has for the last 10 days. I received an e-mail from the tournament director that they would make a decision later this afternoon about tomorrow's games. If they cancel, the rain date will be next Saturday, May 16, most likely at the same times and locations. We can re-confirm attendance later in the week if the tournament is moved.

Reminder that our game against St. Albert is Monday at 6:00 PM. We have OLHC on Wednesday. I am probably going to schedule St. Catherine for Friday night, maybe a 5:30 start assuming the LC Tournament will be moved. I will let you know. All games are at our home field at Tennent.

It's been a trying season so far with all of the weather we've had. Thanks for your flexibility.

Happy Mother's Day!

Thu May 07 2009 @ 08:49 AM

No game tonight. I am going to try to reschedule this game for Sunday, May 17 at 1:00 PM at Log College. I have not confirmed that with the opposing coach. If you cannot make that time, please let me know before I try to reschedule.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

Tonight's Game (Wed, 5/6/09) is Canceled

Wed May 06 2009 @ 04:39 PM

and rescheduled for next Wednesday at 6:00 PM at our home field. You should be hearing from Mr. Hoban (or his girls!) as well. The field is very sloppy and we did not want to risk anyone getting hurt, or damaging the field for future use.

Tomorrow's game is still on as of now. Keep your fingers crossed that the rain holds off for about 28 hours! We'll try to make a determination on the conditions at the field a little earlier in the day.

If you haven't contacted me about participating in the LC tournament this weekend, please let me know ASAP. I have yet to hear from 4 girls on their availability. We are tight on players this weekend because of other conflicts. I need to know if you are available so we can make sure we have enough to field a team.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

This week and LC Tournament

Mon May 04 2009 @ 08:40 AM

Parents and Players,

This week looks like a washout. I've just received word that the season will be extended into next week, so we'll likely make up a game or two (or three!) next week. Tonight's game is canceled.

The LC tournament is on Saturday. We have games at:

  • 8:30 AM at the LC Varsity field vs. Corpus Christi

  • 10:40 AM at Moyer Field vs. SASH

  • 12:50 PM at Moyer Field vs. St. Luke

If we win our pool, the championship game is set for 5:30 PM at LC Varsity field.

This will be a great opportunity to get ready for the last week of the season and for the playoffs. Despite a couple of setbacks, I think we have a great chance to make the playoffs and get to the championship game. Saturday will be a good day to get sharp playing against some good competition. There will be plenty of playing time for everyone.

Please let me know right away which game(s) you can or cannot make on Saturday. I need a count ASAP so that I can make sure we have enough players for each game.

Please continue to check your e-mail throughout the week. If the weather continues to be uncooperative, I will look for alternatives to get together (e.g., in the gym or at a local batting cage).

Thanks, Coach Roynan

No Practice Today (Sunday)

Sun May 03 2009 @ 06:49 AM

Parents and Players,

Practice for today is canceled. The weather is "iffy" at best, and it's likely the field is wet and muddy.

Please continue to check your e-mail today and throughout the week. The current forecast calls for rain throughout the week with the possible exception of Wednesday.

The LC Tournament schedule will be out later today, and I will send along the information when I get it. Once we have it, I'll ask you to let me know about conflicts for the game times.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan

No Game Tonight

Wed April 29 2009 @ 08:10 AM

Parents and Players,

I thought I had rescheduled our OLHC game for this evening, but the OLHC coach already has a game scheduled this evening. Unless I have the wrong team (which I'm trying to check on now) we have no game tonight. We'll practice tonight instead. 6:00 PM at Tennent.

Thanks, Coach Roynan

Recpa and This week's schedule

Mon April 27 2009 @ 02:01 PM

Parents and Players,

We had a pretty successful weekend, and a good start (finally!) to the season. Opening the season against a perennial Region 11 softball power is a tough way to start. But the girls played well, battled until the end, and gained some confidence. If we're fortunate to meet them again in the playoffs, I think the result will be different! On Sunday, many of the girls stepped up, got some big hits, and made some nice fielding plays. Even though we were shorthanded, we were able to come up with a win.

Because of the early rains and the mixup last Sunday, this week will be hectic. We have games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights this week, all at Tennent at 6:00 PM. If you can get the girls there by 5:15 PM, we would appreciate it.

Please let me know as soon as possible if there are any conflicts. We do not have a weekend game scheduled for the rest of the regular season (the LC tournament is Friday and Saturday), so I'm hopeful that the conflicts can be minimized. I know that many of the girls will be missing practices for other teams this week to attend our games. I appreciate their efforts.

Thanks,

Coach Roynan
