Thank You

Wed December 10 2008 @ 10:48 AM

I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the turnout on Sunday to bake the cookies. It was great to see almost the entire team come out to help. Karen Naylor took the trays to Aid For Friends on Monday and she said they were really happy to get them. A lot of groups make food trays or sandwiches, but the cookies and candy that the girls put together were a really nice surprise for them. So, Karen asked me to make sure you knew that your daughters really came through big time and to thank them for the Aid For Friends people.

CYO Service Project

Mon December 01 2008 @ 02:40 PM

Girls,

Part of what our CYO program is all about is giving back to our community. And, it's even more important this time of year. So, we're inviting the 7th and 8th grade girls from the volleyball and soccer teams to come to the school gym on Sunday December 7th at 7:00pm.

We'd like to get the teams together for a holiday community service project making cookies to be given out to Aid for Friends. You'll bake and decorate cookies, sign Christmas cards, play holiday music and have fun while helping others.

We'd like each of you to bring one thing to help in the effort (sprinkles or other cookie decorations, a stick of butter, box of holiday cards, ribbon, a couple eggs, cookie icing, etc.). Once we get a list of who is coming, we'll let you know what to bring. Anyone who has big bowls and spoons is also encourage to bring them.

Please let me or Mrs. Naylor know if you're going to come. We'd like to hear back from everybody by Friday.

Thanks.

Mr. Wachter Mrs. Naylor neilwska@aol.com K2KN@aol.com

PS: Anyone who didn't return your uniform should bring it on Sunday. Thanks.

Parent/Player Game & Uniform Return

Tue November 18 2008 @ 10:25 AM

Girls,

Sorry this took so long. It gets tough finding gym time once basketball season starts! We would like to have an end of the year pizza party and parent/player game to celebrate the fun year we had. We can get the Calvary school gym this Sunday, November 23 at 6:30. Please ask your parents to come join in. We'll try to make sure none of us has to play too long, so we don't get hurt! Also, please bring your uniforms as well (you can keep the socks!).

Let us know if you can make this. Hope all of you can. We're going to include the 7th grade team as well.

See you Sunday!

Congratulations

Wed October 29 2008 @ 03:48 PM

Girls,

We just wanted to say congratulations on a great season. I know it didn't end the way we wanted it to, but you should all be really proud of yourselves. Each of you came a long way and are a far better player now than you were in August. We hope you had fun this year and learned at least a little bit. I know we had fun coaching you. We're going to try to have a player/parent game in the next couple of weeks. I need you to return your uniform at that time. I'll let you know the date asap. Thanks again and, good luck with the rest of the school year!

Playoffs- Tonight

Mon October 27 2008 @ 09:31 AM

Girls, We start the playoffs tonight. We're playing at approximately 8:00pm at St. Martha's gym. We'll be going against St. Martha #2, who we just beat last week. Our 7th grade team is playing, at the same gym, at about 7:20, so, it would be great if you could get to the gym about that time and cheer them on while you're getting ready for our game. Just remember, you've gone 10-5 over your last 5 matches! Congratulations!

Playoffs

Thu October 23 2008 @ 02:53 PM

Parents, The playoffs will start on Monday October 27. We will be playing at either St. Martha's gym or the St. Katherine gym. We will not know which location, or what time ( 6:00, 7:00 or 8:00) until late Sunday night at the earliest. It may actually drag into Monday morning. So, please check your emails Monday morning. We will let you know the details as soon as we get them. On a separate note, we are really pleased with the progress the team has made. The girls have come a long way since the beginning of the season. One of the benefits of having all the teams make the playoffs is that you can give everybody a good amount of playing time. But, now that the playoffs have started, that will most likely change.
The objective of the playoffs is to win. The team that emerges as the winner of the Region 1 playoffs will represent the region in the Archdiocesan Tournament. That's a great accomplishment. So, with that in mind, we will try to get everybody playing time but can not guarantee it. There may be matches when not all the girls will play. We will talk with them about this but we wanted to let you know up front what the gameplan is.
Thanks.

Volleyball Schedule this week

Mon October 13 2008 @ 10:56 AM

Girls,

Just a reminder that we have a game tonight at 8:00pm at St. Martha's. We also have a rescheduled game this Wednesday night at 8:00pm at St. Cecilia. Try to be at the gym by about 7:40.

We have three games left, including these two, before we head to the playoffs. I know practice time has been limited but next week we have no games so we should be able to get a couple of them in before the playoffs.

See you tonight.

Playing Time Issue

Sun September 28 2008 @ 07:46 PM

Parents,

After being confronted by a parent after today's game, I think Rick and I need to let you know what we're doing with the 8th grade team. First, we enjoy the girls. They're nice kids and are generally a pleasure to work with. So, any decision on playing time has absolutely nothing to do with whether we like your daughter or not. We've made it clear that playing time will be based on game circumstances and who is or isn't hustling and what gives our team the best chance to win. CYO sports are a competitive environment where one of the key objectives is to win. Rick and I made a decision early on not to just play for the win at all costs, but to try to find time for all the girls. Unfortunately, with 13 girls on the team, that's not always possible. In fact it's not realistic. So, we try to do our best. Every game, we look at the players and try to find the mix that will help the team achieve its goals. Each match there are girls who are disappointed with their playing time. And, that's good. We want players who want to be on the court. But this is not an in-house program where everybody is equal. This is just as competitive as basketball, softball or any other CYO program. We've made a specific point of telling the girls that playing time is earned.

Now, on to my personal pet peeve....if anybody thinks they can do a better job, step forward. Rick and I don't have a daughter on this team and are spending on average 3-5 hours per week away from our families to coach your daughters. This is in addition to the time we spend coaching our own kids. When it was obvious that we would have enough players to form two varsity teams, the first thing I did was to reach out to all the 8th grade parents to see if anyone wanted to volunteer to coach. As you can see, nobody did. So, for any parent to confront us and imply that we're against their daughter is insulting. So, I'll make the same statement...if anybody wants to coach the 8th grade team, step up. Don't get mad, get involved. We have practice Wednesday night at 5:30. Come out and take over. Trust me, you won't hurt our feelings.

I know the vast majority of you are wondering what the heck I'm talking about. And, please understand, this is not directed at you. Without your help, whether it's running the scoreboard, working the snack stand, being a line judge or helping put away the chairs after the match, we would not have a program. Rick and I really appreciate your help and support. It's just that being confronted by parents who don't get involved has to be addressed.

Thanks.

Volleyball- jewelry reminder

Thu September 25 2008 @ 11:19 AM

Girls,

Just a reminder that you should not wear any type of jewelry to the games. This includes earrings, bobby pins, barrets, wrist strings, etc. We don't know which referee we'll get each night and some are much more strict than others. So, rather than have to take all of it off, it's better if you don't have the jewelry on to begin with. Thanks and we'll see you tonight.
